At one national retail chain, an observant employee noticed a frequent visitor with an unusual shopping habit. He would walk in the store, grab a cart, and head to the fragrance department. After smelling a few samples of perfumes he would browse through the lingerie department and leave without purchasing anything.
Clearly something unusual was going on, but what was this man doing? Was he a problem to the store? Did he pose a danger to customers?
The next time he entered the business, the store notified Iverify. Using the store’s monitoring system, The “I” was able to follow the customer as he performed his ritual of grabbing a shopping cart and visiting the fragrance department. Iverify continued to watch him as he made his way to the lingerie department and browsed a table of clearance items. He eventually moved on to the household items section of the store where he enjoyed a few scented candles. Next, he returned to the fragrance area and, after putting a few items into his cart, he put a couple more in his pocket.
At this point Iverify took action. Above the man’s head a voice authoritatively asked the man to remove the items from his pocket and leave the store.
The man removed the stolen items from his pocket, held them up to the camera and returned them. He then pushed his cart back to the front of the store, placed it with the others and exited the location- all without incident.
With a typical security infrastructure the best they could do would be to review video tapes and hope to catch him later. With the power of The “I”, Iverify not only caught him in the act but prevented the loss of these items and deterred future thefts.
